Redesigns
I'm often asked if I can reset or redesign an heirloom piece. I love giving new life to old unworn pieces. Below you can find basic information on the process and answers to some questions.
Do you melt down old metal?
Yes! I can recycle your old solid yellow gold pieces, whether its rings, earrings, necklaces or bracelets. When using existing pieces, additional labor is required as well as additional materials. However, if the piece is sentimental, I recommend going this route.
Can I receive credit for extra metal?
Yes, the scrap value of addition gold that will not be used in your new piece can be credited towards the cost.
What karats and colors of gold can be used?
14k or 18k yellow can be used. These karats are easier to work with and don't require much more
Can you melt my white gold and turn it into yellow gold?
Unfortunately no. Gold in one color cannot be made into gold in another color. Yellow, Rose and White gold are all made up of different alloys that give each its respective color.
Can you use my gemstones?
Depending on the size and type of stone. Stones over 3mm cannot be used due to insurance purposes. Softer stones can be used on a case by case basis.
What happens to my setting after you remove the gemstones?
You have three options, you can keep your old setting, receive credit in the amount of scrap value, or it can be recycled for your new piece.
What if I don't want to keep the gemstones?
On a case by case basis, I can give you credit for the gemstones towards your finished piece. I am not a GIA certified gemologist but I will do my best to offer you a fair price based on the type and size of the gemstone.
